HISTORY OF HIGHSCOPE
HIGHSCOPE EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION
In 1962, David Weikart, the founder of HighScope, with his Perry Preschool Project discovered that a high quality preschool program can significantly increase children’s future success and contributions to families and society.
The Program was designed to anticipate the rapidly changing world by preparing children using active learning and progressive constructivism.
Started in the US, HighScope spread to several countries:
Indonesia – Ireland – Mexico – The Netherlands – The United Kingdom – Portugal – Canada - China – Chile – Peru – South Africa – Korea
HIGHSCOPE IN INDONESIA
Started in 1996 with only 8 students and located at Pondok Indah, Jakarta Selatan. In 17 years, HighScope Indonesia has grown to 11 schools with more than 3000 students.
HIGHSCOPE INDONESIA INSTITUTE
HighScope Institute Indonesia seeks to promote the use of HighScope throughout the country. We are accomplishing this by:
- Teacher development programs
- Ensuring quality in training and practice
- Providing relevant services to individual sites
- Developing training course materials
- Developing elementary, middle school and high school curriculum using the HighScope approach
HighScope Indonesia Institute was established in 2000 to accommodate the spread of this highly effective approach nationwide and to respond the grow of society’s awareness and needs for balanced education between academic and character. It happened after the first-established preschool program decidedly exhibited a proven track record to parents with children in the program.
